History of La Rosière
It was in the hamlet of Montvalezan in 1920 that the story began with the creation of an association of skiers called “Union Sportive de Montvalezan”. The area was previously mainly used for agriculture and livestock. It was the advent of alpine tourism and the democratization of winter sports in the 20th century that profoundly transformed La Rosière into a winter sports destination. In the mid-1960s, the development of its ski lift and accommodation infrastructure began and the ski area had 3 ski lifts.
A cross-border destination
A key moment in the history of La Rosière was the creation of the cross-border link with the resort of La Thuile located in Italy. This openness to Italian culture has created a unique ski area with a diversity of slopes, landscapes and experiences. It was in 1985 that the Bellecombe ski lift and the Chardonnet chairlift crossed the border.
