Val d'Isère: the pearl of the Alps
A visionary station
This small alpine village, located in the Tarentaise Valley, was born well before the advent of winter tourism.
It is the meeting of two men, Jacques Mouflier and Nicolas Bazile, who is at the origin of the creation of the station of Val d'Isère in 1931. The development of this high-mountain village began in 1932 with the creation of public infrastructure, then with the urban plan in 1936. Then, it is in 1937 that the very first ski school is born with young avalins as instructors. Since then, the resort has grown to become one of the most popular ski resorts in Europe
A land of champions
To attract tourists, the resort of Val d'Isère creates a Sports Club to organize competitions. Today, Bellevarde Face remains a World Cup stage on the Pillow-Killy track. Thanks to the 1992 Albertville Olympic Games, the resort hosted 4 men’s events: the giant slalom, super G, combined and downhill.
For decades, Val d'Isère has been the playground and training ground for many world-renowned athletes. Henri Oreiller, Paule Moris, Jean-Claude Killy and the Goitschel sisters, great names in the ski industry, hit their first ski slopes in Val d'Isère.
